Is your water safe?
Water may be deemed unsafe (non-potable) for many reasons, however the most likely reason is due to the presence of microbiological contaminants in the water. These contaminants may be in your water supply for many reasons; some of which could be agricultural run-off, malfunctioning septic systems, animal waste, etc. Although microbiological issues such as faecal coliform (E. coli), Legionella, Cryptosporidium, Giardia Lamblia (Beaver Fever) and many others, may be contaminating your water supply, there is a relatively easy solution to this problem. Bacteriological issues can be solved by a chemical process such as chlorination, or by a physical process such as boiling. Both processes take time to make the water safe as well as use unnecessary energy and in the case of chlorination, the potential creation of disinfection by-products which may in fact be potentially carcinogenic! Another physical treatment method is UV light sterilization. UV light is safe, easy to use, environmentally friendly, and provides virtually immediate disinfection without altering the taste of the water or imparting any potentially harmful disinfection by-products (DBP's).
